Use Recycled Paper
Currently on average it takes 786 million trees world wide to produce the world’s paper supply, 71% of this is virgin wood, i.e. trees from native forests.
In the US, the paper industry is responsible for 10% of the annual carbon emissions.
Australia uses around 1.23 million tonnes of paper per year, which equates to around 30 million trees.
Producing one tonne of recycled paper saves:
31,780 litres of water
4100 kilowatt/hours of electricity
75% of chlorinated bleach
27 kilograms of air pollutants
13 trees
4 cubic metres of landfill
2.5 barrels of oil.
100 percent post- consumer recycled paper can save 5 pounds of carbon dioxide per ream.
